Mecanum Wheel

A modified version of the goBILDA kit mecanum wheel, with improved geometry, traction, and DFM data modeled in SolidWorks.

Project Summary

For my final project in ME 123 (Mechanical Engineering - CAD) class at the University of Washington, I created a modified version of the goBILDA kit mecanum wheel with some changes and refinements to the detail in the design.

 

The model has mathematically accurate rollers, traction grooves for improved aesthetics and grip on the rollers, and a fully drafted plastic hub, ready for injection molding. The model takes full advantage of SolidWorks sheet metal for the side plates, configurations for left and right alternatives, advanced and mechanical mates for a fully-featured assembly, and both an assembly drawing as well as a detail drawing of the hub.

The rendering was done with RealityServer in Onshape. You can access all of the native model data through the project's GrabCAD page, which has more than 1,000 downloads and 250 likes as of writing.
